5 easy steps to create your own skincare brand
1. Have an idea or product, do preliminary research
Great ideas pave the way for exceptional products. But being passionate about creating a product is not enough. Before jumping in right away, make sure you've done a bit of research on the market and the product you want to create. It could save you a lot of time and money in the future. Have an idea of how your product is going to stand out. How will your brand's story be different from other brands?
No need to overthink it but at least have a guideline for your brand to follow will ease up the work that you and your team will have to do in the future. A few things to think about right could be the color you want to use for your brand. What brand values do you and your team share. Expressing that through your product could be a great opportunity to connect with your customers.
2. Find a supplier
Now you'll need to choose a manufacturer for your brand. Look for a manufacturer that has had experience producing skincare products and is currently producing skincare products. Ask them about the quantities they can produce, their qualifications, and make sure that they truly understand your brand's direction. Be sure to ask your manufacturer any question you might have because they can help you with formulation, packaging, design, labeling, and distribution.
Once you’ve found a supplier that you can really connect with, future products and projects will be a lot easier. Not only can they give you guidance and information on the latest products or ingredients, the costs will be lower in the long run as well. Make sure to great relationships with your manufacturers as well as your customers.
3. Register and trademark your brand, company, logo
Before putting your products up on the shelves. Make sure you comply with all local laws. Trademarking your logo and making sure your products are registered are also crucial factors that need to be considered. If you plan on selling your products in more than one country, make sure your products are registered in each country.
If you have plans on expanding to another region or country, our advice is to at least trademark there first. With a lot of purchasing done online now, the possibility to expand your brands reach is further than ever. Save yourself the headaches and just trademark first. It will be cheaper in the long run, especially when you consider the legal costs if your products aren’t registered.
4. Test the formulations, Finalize on design
Be sure to test out your products before launching your brand. Do they match what you had in mind? Is the formula in line with what your brand stands for? With each sample received, try and write notes on what improvements were made and test it against the previous sample obtained to reduce biases.
Have multiple people test out your products. It could be friends or family. Having another opinion always helps. They might see something that you didn’t see or have an interesting idea for your next product.
5. Launch your beauty empire
Create a website and start advertising your product. Start letting people know how great your brand is and what your brand can do for them.
