Why natural skin care is better
When we think of skincare, we often think of the benefits each product provides us and quite often think of the short-term solutions they may provide us at the time. One thing that is often overlooked is the long-term repercussions that each ingredient brings with them when they are harmful synthetic ingredients. Many skincare products are formulated with ingredients that cause irritation, dryness, and even breakouts rather than reduce them. Even Though the skin acts as a protective barrier, when harmful synthetic ingredients are used, the potential for them to leak into the bloodstream is still possible.
Natural products are not only great for personal use but the environment as well. Synthetic ingredients are often not biodegradable and can hurt the surrounding ecosystem. Exfoliating synthetic microbeads, for example, are incredibly harmful to the environment. Exfoliating synthetic microbeads are plastic molded into tiny beads used for exfoliating the skin. They are often found in scrubs, toothpaste, and face washes. These tiny plastic beads are not degradable and, once used, end up floating in lakes and waterways. These microbeads pollute the waterways and pose a danger for animals that may eat them. Another harmful synthetic ingredient is triclosan. Triclosan is often used as a cleanser due to its antibacterial properties. However, triclosan is not easily degradable and alters the biochemistry of aquatic animals.
Natural skincare, haircare, and cosmetics can be the solution for those with sensitive skin and who have had a history of redness, dryness, and irritation. Natural products are mild and are free of many irritants like parabens, triclosan, and sulfates, to name a few. Because natural products are gentle, animal testing is made redundant and is not needed.
Opting for natural skincare is taking the first step in doing your part in making the world a better place. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved, including yourself, the environment, and the animals we share this world with.
