Benefits of Jojoba in Skincare
A few reasons why you should use jojoba oil in your skincare routine
As the world moves towards a greener and more sustainable future, it’s no surprise to find oils back in cosmetic products again. When it comes to using oils in skincare routines and rituals, the subject of incorporating oils seems to create a divide amongst people. With some claiming the oils to be responsible for breakouts and others claiming oils to have been responsible for restoring beauty to both their skin and hair.
Whichever side of the fence one finds themselves on, there’s no denying the impact oils have made in the skin care and hair care industry. However, one thing to note is that not all oils are the same. We’ll discuss this later in a different article, but for now, we’ll take a closer dive into the jojoba oil.
So how is the jojoba oil made?
The jojoba seeds are obtained from the shrub. These shrubs are often found in desert-like climates in North America.
The jojoba oil is obtained from a process called cold pressing. How this works is via cold pressing the seeds from the jojoba bush. What is obtained from this is not actually purely oil but wax, or wax esters, but is commonly referred to as the jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil has seen use in various parts of the world and has been used for centuries to treat the scalp, inflamed skin and for various other topical applications.
How it is beneficial from its components?
The jojoba contains a hefty amount of compounds and various forms of vitamins to help support a healthy skin result.
These compounds include tocopherols which are a form of Vitamin E.
Their uses include battling free radicals, reducing signs of aging, hyperpigmentation and reducing inflamed skin, for a more youthful looking skin.
Vitamin E is used extensively in skin care to help repair damaged skin or scarring on skin.
The wax or oil obtained from the cold pressed jojoba seeds are extremely similar to the sebum produced naturally by the skin, hence making it perfect for use in skin care and hair care products and compatible with different people.
This wax is perfect for those looking to moisturize in the form of a gentle and mild barrier locking in moisture without clogging the pores.
Another benefit is that those allergic to nuts will not find themselves allergic to the jojoba oil as the oil is obtained from a seed rather than a nut.
When we think of the benefits the jojoba oil brings, one of the first things we think of is how beneficial the jojoba oil is for those looking to find oils that do not clog up the pores or in other words non-comedogenic.
Uses in skin care
Because of the vast benefits available from the jojoba oil, products ranging from shampoos to moisturizers and face serum now have jojoba oil in them.
But for the best benefits, we recommend looking for products like moisturizers, face oils, lip balms, face masks and lotions. Aim for products that focus on providing moisture and softness to the skin.
